Boniface Risk Sanction For Criticising Teammates – NFF

Victor Boniface

‎A senior official from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has indicated that Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface may face expulsion from Nigeria’s senior national team due to his recent interview in which he criticised the dedication of his teammates during international matches.

‎In an interview conducted last week, Boniface expressed his concerns regarding the mindset of some teammates while on national duty, stating that they seem indifferent to the outcomes of the games.

‎”When some of my teammates join the national team, they seem to think, we go, we play, and whether we win or lose is of no consequence,” Boniface remarked on The Culture League podcast.

‎”I always try to remind them that we are millions in Nigeria. I believe we have the largest population in Africa.”

‎In response, a member of the NFF board mentioned that they have taken note of the interview and have instructed head coach Eric Chelle to take disciplinary measures against the 24-year-old, which could result in his potential removal from the team.

‎Chelle reportedly expressed significant dissatisfaction with the interview, especially from a player whose commitment has already been questioned due to his performance in the recent match against Russia, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

‎The NFF, for their part, is advocating for his removal from the squad due to the discord his comments have caused among the players, following discussions with several senior team members. They aim to foster a harmonious and united team as they approach the critical phases of the World Cup qualifiers.
