9 Mobile Changes Brand Name

On Friday, the Eko Convention Centre in Lagos hosted the unveiling of 9mobile’s rebrand. The rebranding included a change of name to T2 a year after LH Telecommunication Limited acquired a 95.5 percent stake in the network provider, resulting in a change of control.

This marks the second name change for the company, previously rebranded from Etisalat to 9mobile in 2017.

Femi Banigbe, CEO of Emerging Markets Telecommunication Services Limited (EMTS), described the rebrand as “the start of a bold new era” for the company.

“This is more than a new logo or tagline—it’s a renewed commitment to our customers and a declaration of our ambition to evolve into something greater,” he stated. Banigbe emphasized that the transformation reflects a redefined mission to meet the growing demands of Nigerians for speed, accessibility, and relevance in a tech-driven world.

He highlighted the dynamism of Nigeria’s youth, entrepreneurs, startups, SMEs, and families, noting their need for constant connectivity, information, and entertainment.

“To stay relevant, we must radically and pragmatically reimagine our approach to business,” Banigbe said. He underscored the brand’s “proudly Nigerian” identity, rooted in the resilience and tenacity of the nation.

Despite past challenges and setbacks, Banigbe affirmed that, like Nigeria, the company emerges stronger, with renewed focus and determination to address market demands.
