‎NPFL Clamps Down on Match Betting, as Officials Face Expulsion and Fines

‎The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has given a strong warning to players, officials, and everyone connected with the clubs. They said that betting on NPFL matches is not allowed at all.

‎In a letter dated August 6, 2025, sent to the Chairmen and General Managers of all NPFL clubs, signed by Davidson Owumi, the league made it clear that they will not tolerate betting. They said that taking part in betting harms the fairness of the game and hurts the league’s reputation.

‎The NPFL said that players, coaches, club staff, and anyone else linked to the clubs are not allowed to bet. This follows both their own rules and international standards for professional football.

‎The letter said, “The NPFL will not accept any betting by players, club officials, or anyone connected to our member clubs.”

‎The letter also explained the dangers of betting, especially:

‎- Match-fixing: This is a serious problem that goes against the idea of fair play and honest competition.

‎- Reputation damage: Getting involved in betting can harm the name of players, clubs, and the league itself.

‎According to Article 15.5 Section B of the NPFL Framework and Rules, those who break the rules may be banned forever from all NPFL activities.

‎Other punishments, like fines and temporary suspensions, are also possible, as stated in Section C of the same rules.

‎The NPFL wants to keep things fair and transparent, and is asking all involved to follow high ethical standards both on and off the field.

‎To make sure everyone is responsible, the NPFL is encouraging people to report any betting problems, and they promise to keep those who come forward safe and anonymous.

‎They said, “The NPFL assures all clubs, players, and officials that any information reported will be treated with full confidentiality and care.”
