Nigeria Eagles B will be Better Against Sudan – Coach Claimed

‎‎It is reported that the Super Eagles B of Nigeria matched Senegal in their opening match of the ongoing African Nations Championship in East Africa, yet their downfall was their failure to convert superior possession into goals, resulting in a 1-0 loss. However, according to Head Coach Eric Chelle, that setback is now behind the team.

‎Chelle, who was taken aback by the remarkable intensity and quality displayed by his team in their Group C opener, acknowledges that his players must elevate their performance to avoid elimination from the championship at the group stage.

‎”I am surprised by the intensity,” Chelle remarked to the cafonline report, reflecting on a match that highlighted the technical prowess of both teams. “There are numerous strong teams and a great deal of quality. I believe the pitches are excellent, facilitating fast-paced and technical football. This promises to be an outstanding CHAN competition.”

‎After missing the last two editions of the CHAN in 2020 and 2022, despite strong performances in 2014, 2016, and 2018, the Super Eagles B entered Tuesday’s match with high expectations but fell short against a well-organized Senegalese side, which netted the winning goal in the 75th minute.

‎In the post-match press conference, Chelle characterized Senegal’s goal as “self-inflicted” due to a defensive lapse and expressed disappointment over his team’s lack of urgency, particularly in the first half.

‎”Senegal earned their victory because we only played for 20 minutes in the second half,” he stated. “In the first half, I did not recognize my team. Senegal was more aggressive; they exerted more intensity, and it is entirely reasonable for them to take the lead and win.”

‎While he acknowledged his team’s enhanced performance in the second half, Chelle emphasized that brief moments of quality are insufficient to secure victories at this level.

‎”When we began to play, we created opportunities, maintained possession well, and displayed flashes of our attacking capabilities,” he noted. “However, we must be more ambitious and aggressive, pressing higher up the pitch and regaining possession swiftly.”
