Why We Lost to Senegal- Super Eagles Coach Speaks Out

Super Eagles Coach - Eric Chelle

Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, has suggested why Senegal defeated Nigeria 1-0 in their opening 2024 African Nations Championship, CHAN, Group D tie on Tuesday evening.

‎Recent reports indicate that a second-half goal from Christian Gomis secured a victory for Senegal against Nigeria at the Amani Stadium in Tanzania.

‎During his post-match press conference, Chelle emphasised that the Senegalese team outperformed his home-based Super Eagles due to their superior aggression throughout the match.

‎He noted that the Senegalese displayed greater intensity during the game, asserting that they rightfully earned the win.

‎”Senegal was more aggressive than us. They exhibited more intensity than we did, and in my view, this is to be expected. They deserve this victory,” Chelle remarked.

‎Chelle further acknowledged that his team committed an error in the second half against Senegal

“‎In the second half, we conceded a goal. This was a minor mistake. However, it is understandable as we never fully engaged in this match. Perhaps it was a mental issue, or maybe we were apprehensive about something,” he added.

‎Looking ahead, following the match against Senegal, Nigeria’s next fixture will be against Sudan in their second CHAN game next Tuesday.
