INEC Calls on Stakeholders to Support Continuous Voter Registration in Bayelsa

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has urged stakeholders in Bayelsa State to support the upcoming Continuous Voter Registration exercise, which is set to resume later this month. INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner for Bayelsa State, Mallam Isah Ehimeakhe, called during a news briefing at the commission’s state headquarters in Yenagoa.

The online pre-registration process will begin on August 18, while physical registration will commence on August 25 at INEC Local Government Area Registration Centres across the state. Mallam Ehimeakhe encouraged all eligible Nigerians residing in Bayelsa State to take advantage of the opportunity to register and participate in the democratic process.

The INEC REC warned against double and underage registration, which are offenses punishable by law under the Electoral Act 2022. He emphasized the commission’s commitment to protecting the voting rights of every Nigerian and appealed to traditional rulers, religious leaders, political parties, youth and women groups, civil society organizations, and the media to support and promote the voter registration drive.

Mallam Ehimeakhe, who assumed office as INEC REC in Bayelsa State on June 17, stressed the importance of voter registration in citizens’ participation in the democratic process. He urged stakeholders to collaborate with the commission to ensure a smooth, inclusive, and credible exercise.
