D’tigress Wins Afrobasket Championship

Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, has made history by winning the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Championship for a record-breaking fifth consecutive time.

They defeated Mali 78-64 in the final, held at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. This victory marks their seventh title overall and extends their unbeaten streak in the competition to 29 games, dating back to 2017.

The match was closely contested, with Mali taking an early lead, but D’Tigress rallied to tie the score 41-41 by halftime, thanks to the scoring duo of Amy Okonkwo and Ezinne Kalu.

Nigeria’s tightened defense in the third quarter proved decisive, outscoring Mali 20-15. A pivotal three-point play from Okonkwo and Kalu’s smart decision-making helped Nigeria take control, leading 61-56 by the fourth quarter.

D’Tigress dominated the final quarter, limiting Mali to just 8 points while scoring 17, to seal the win with a commanding 14-point margin.
