Nathaniel Bassey

‎Renowned Nigerian gospel singer and pastor, Nathaniel Bassey, has announced a special edition of his popular worship event, the Hallelujah Challenge, set to hold inside the Kirikiri Medium Security Prison in Lagos.

‎The one-day program, tagged the Kirikiri Edition, is scheduled for August 27, 2025, and is designed as a birthday initiative close to Bassey’s heart. The singer shared the news on Friday, August 1, via his official Instagram account expressing his desire to create a spiritual and humanitarian impact within the prison community.

‎According to him, the event will go beyond just praise and worship. Bassey revealed that, as part of the outreach, meals will be provided for inmates, and several will benefit from educational scholarships.

‎“We want to bring not just songs, but hope,” he said.

‎The special edition, unlike the typical online streaming format of the Hallelujah Challenge, may not be broadcast live due to its sensitive location. However, Bassey assured fans that the public version of the popular worship series will return in October.

‎The Hallelujah Challenge, which first went viral in 2017, gathers thousands of Christians in midnight praise sessions streamed via Instagram and YouTube. Its impact has spread beyond Nigeria, drawing participation from around the world.

‎With the Kirikiri edition, Bassey aims to reach a forgotten segment of society, bringing worship behind bars and reminding inmates of God’s love and the power of second chances.
