‎Gideon Okeke Raises Alarm Over Poor Hygiene on Set

‎Nollywood actor Gideon Okeke has called attention to what he describes as alarming hygiene lapses in the Nigerian film industry after developing a severe skin reaction from a costume used on set.

‎In a video shared on social media, Okeke revealed that he broke out in rashes across his body after wearing a traditional animal-skin tunic provided by the costume department for an unnamed movie project. The actor alleged that the outfit had not been properly cleaned or disinfected prior to use, leading to the allergic outbreak.

‎”My body is full of rashes!” he exclaimed, in a follow-up post he wrote:

‎”Dear wardrobe department… Do Nollywood a crying favor by washing those animal skin tunics before handing them to the next unsuspecting talent.
‎The yeye wey dey that wardrobe dey SMELL.”

The actor noted that incidents like his are not rare, pointing out that many actors face similar risks due to poor costume maintenance and a general lack of professional oversight.

‎The incident has prompted renewed calls for producers and costume managers to enforce stricter sanitation measures to safeguard actors’ well-being and ensure a more professional working environment.
