First Lady Oluremi Tinubu Hails Super Falcons as Role Models

The First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu, praised the Super Falcons as heroes and exemplary figures of courage, strength, and determination after their remarkable victory at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

During the grand trophy celebration held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday, Mrs. Tinubu expressed her appreciation to the 10-time African champions for boosting the nation’s morale and showcasing Nigeria’s prowess in women’s football across Africa.

She began her speech by saying, “I am thrilled to welcome you back home, our champions, the Super Falcons, a team that has once again brought pride to Nigeria.”

She further commented, “Your success at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco was more than just a win. It highlighted your strength, teamwork, and determination.”

Nigeria made an impressive comeback in a thrilling 3-2 match against Morocco, the host nation, in Rabat on Saturday. They claimed the title once again, just as they did in 2018.

Esther Okoronkwo played a crucial role in the team’s resurgence, while team captain Rasheedat Ajibade, who was honored as Player of the Tournament, led the team with both confidence and enthusiasm.

Reflecting on the team’s exceptional performance, the First Lady remarked:

“You played with passion, confidence, and the belief that the game was not over until the final whistle. The energy you exhibited on the field was truly inspiring. I want to thank each of you for your outstanding efforts.”

She continued, “You demonstrated resilience and reminded the world why Nigeria remains a powerful force in women’s football in Africa.”

Mrs. Tinubu also highlighted the broader implications of the team’s victory, referring to the players as role models and inspirations for many girls in Nigeria and across Africa.

“You are all role models for our young girls in Nigeria and throughout the continent. You have shown what can be achieved through hard work and dedication.
