According to the latest report, it has been confirmed that the defending champions of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), Remo Stars, will commence their title defense for the 2025/26 season.
The report indicates that the current Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) will have its inaugural fixture featuring a crucial match against former champions Rivers United, as per the fixture draw conducted on a rainy Monday afternoon in Abuja.
The upcoming NPFL season will involve each of the 20 participating clubs competing in 38 matches — 19 at home and 19 away — spread over 38 match weeks. Each round will consist of ten matches.

To effectively manage crowd logistics and ensure security, the NPFL has organized the fixture list in such a way that clubs from the same state do not host home matches during the same weekend.
This arrangement applies to pairs like Abia Warriors and Enyimba FC, as well as Kano Pillars and Barau FC, whose home fixtures are deliberately alternated throughout the season.
