Movie Review : The Lost Days

The Wingonia Ikpi directed film is a contemporary movie produced by Natives Film work and MichelAngelo Production that has its setting in Abeokuta, Ogin State.

The plot revolves around a lady, Chisom played by ‘Ifeoma Fafunwa’ who is a cancer survivor that visits her former suitor Kolawole, ‘Bimbo Manuel’ for a reunion with him and their son, Moses, ‘Baaj Adebule’. Her arrival is not welcomed by Kola, ‘Durotimi Okutagidi’ Kolawole’s son.
Her presence in the house necessitates the invitation of Moses Kolawole’s older son for reunion with his estranged mother, Chisom.

Having investigated Chisom, Moses returns to plan her kidnapp with kola his younger brother.
The attempt which is the climax of the plot, cascades to the missing link that
metamorphoses into the tie that binds the family.

In the movie the director employs irony in the delivery. The title, “The Lost Days” is an epitome of irony. Its plot comes as a reverse of what it is called. The title should have been, “The Reclaimed Days”, because the story is all about making up of the lost.

Again, between the two sons of Kolawole, Kola the younger son is thought to be the black sheep of the family not knowing that Moses is a crook a wolf in sheep clothing.

Also, the use of irony is portrayed in the nefarious act of Moses who is in dire need of money, plots against Chisom, and tried to murder her not knowing that she is his mother he longs to have in life and who can provide him with all he needs in life.

The Lost Days passes the message of forgiveness. Kolawole has to forgive kola his younger son. Chisom does the same to both young men and accepts the responsibility of their crimes that serves as the talisman that binds the family.

Tribal sentiment appears as a theme in the film. Kolawole and Chisom’s separation is based on ethnic sentiment for Kolawole’s family has to object to the marriage because Chisom comes from the South eastern Nigeria. This issue set the stage for the travail of Moses who misses his mother in the larger part of his life.

The movie criticizes those who glorify and champion ethnic, religious and tribal sentiments in the nation because it fans the amber of hatred and disunity.

The movie also highlights the theme of poor upbringing. Both brothers, Moses and Kola engage in a nefarious act like kidnapping. This questions the manner of training they receive from Kolawole who raises them without his wife Ronke or Chisom playing the role of a loving mother.

The Lost Days reveals the extent of moral decadence in our society especially on the side of our youths. Moses dupes the organisation he works and plots with his younger brother for the kidnap of Chisom.

Furthermore, the drama underscores destiny. Chisom is destined to return to Kolawole and the family. She survives a terminal illness comes back when Ronke Kolawole’s former wife has died to unify the family.

Ifeoma Fafunwa and Bimbo Manuel deliver their roles in the movie well to link the past to the present building emotions in the plot. The entrance of Kola also adds spices to the plot. His body language, and utterances do not hide the fact that Chisom is unwelcomed into the family. He sees Chisom as a substitute to Ronke his late mother in his father’s life this makes him envious.

Chisom also interprets the role of a mother evoking emotions on her act of forgiveness, affections, and acceptance even after the kidnapping.

The drama is written by Abdul Tijani Ahmed released on July 11 2025. The movie stars Bimbo Manuel, Baaj Adebule, Durotimi Okatagidi, Cynthia Clarke, Ifeona Fafunwa.

However, the pitfall in the movie is the quick succession the plot unfolds. The scene of the kidnap is hurried there by eclipsing reality which translates into suspense and surprise.

In all kudos should be given to the cast and crew. The Lost Days is a must watch for the family for it promotes family harmony. The production scores seven out of ten in rating.
