“I Look Forward to Receiving Trophy in Abuja” -Tinubu Sent a Message to Super Falcons

According to a recent report, it has been stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended his heartfelt congratulations to Nigeria’s Super Falcons for their remarkable triumph at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). He conveyed his pride in their achievement and told the jubilant team, “Safe journey home…I look forward to receiving the trophy in Abuja.”

The report indicates that during a post-match video call with team captain Rasheedat Ajibade and other players after their thrilling 3-2 victory against the host nation Morocco in Rabat, President Tinubu praised the team’s resilience, unity, and the unwavering Nigerian spirit they demonstrated.

“I am extremely proud of you. The entire nation shares in this pride. You have lifted our spirits. You are a source of pride for your generation, and we are all very pleased,” President Tinubu remarked during the call.

The report also mentions that the President offered his sincere congratulations to the entire coaching staff, the team’s management, and the accompanying government officials, commending them for their unwavering support throughout the tournament.

Ajibade, who was honored as the Most Valuable Player and Woman of the Tournament, received special recognition from the President.

“You will be celebrated,” he stated, acknowledging her outstanding performance and leadership on the field.

President Tinubu further praised Esther Okoronkwo for her composure under pressure, highlighting her 64th-minute penalty that sparked Nigeria’s comeback, describing it as “very courageous.”

Okoronkwo later played a crucial role in the equalizer and executed the key free-kick that led to Jennifer Echegini’s match-winning goal.

With warmth and gratitude, the President addressed the players, saying, “safe journey home, enjoy yourselves, avoid injuries, God bless you,” which elicited cheers and repeated chants of “thank you, Mr President!” from the players and officials.
