Google To Crown Nigeria King Of Artificial Intelligence

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and Google have strengthened their partnership to position Nigeria as a leading hub for Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Cybersecurity in West Africa.

This renewed commitment, announced via NITDA’s official X account on Saturday, July 26, 2025, bids their shared vision of fostering a secure, inclusive, and innovative digital economy to drive national progress.

The announcement follows a series of strategic discussions held on Friday, July 25, 2025, involving NITDA’s Director General, Kashifu Inuwa, and Marcus Jadotte, Google’s Vice President of Government Affairs & Public Policy (Cloud), alongside other senior Nigerian government officials.

These high-level engagements included visits to key figures in President Bola Tinubu’s administration, such as Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo (Minister of Interior), Dr. Bosun Tijani (Minister of Communication, Innovation and Digital Economy), Dr. Tunji Alausa (Minister of Education), and Mallam Nuhu Ribadu (National Security Adviser).

The collaboration aligns with President Tinubu’s popular Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes leveraging digital transformation to accelerate Nigeria’s socio-economic development. NITDA emphasized that the partnership with Google will focus on advancing AI innovation, enhancing cybersecurity frameworks, and building digital infrastructure to empower Nigerian businesses, institutions, and citizens.

By fostering local talent development and promoting cutting-edge technologies, the initiative aims to create a robust ecosystem that supports economic growth and regional leadership in the digital space.

This joint effort builds on NITDA’s ongoing mission to regulate and develop Nigeria’s IT sector while harnessing Google’s global expertise in cloud computing, AI, and cybersecurity solutions.

The partnership is expected to yield initiatives such as capacity-building programs, policy frameworks to support innovation, and investments in secure digital infrastructure, all tailored to address Nigeria’s unique challenges and opportunities in the digital age.
