Super Eagles Coach Drops Squad List For CHAN

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has named the final 23-player squad for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), which will take place from August 2 to August 30, 2025, in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.

This tournament is specifically for players who play in domestic leagues, and it’s a big chance for Nigeria to win their first-ever CHAN title. They previously got bronze in 2014 and silver in 2018.

The team mixes experienced players with young, talented ones who have good skills, understand the game well, and can adapt to different situations.

The team is led by captain Junior Harrison Nduka, a strong and calm center-back who is good in the air, and forward Godwin Obaje, who is a top scorer and plays a key role with his leadership.

The squad includes goalkeeper Ozoemena Ani, who is known for his quick reflexes and can pass well.

Defenders Sodiq Ismaila and Stephen Mayo are reliable, versatile, and can play in different positions. Midfielders Hadi Haruna and Alex Oyowah add creativity and energy to the team. Forwards Anas Yusuf, Sikiru Alimi, and Ijoma Anthony bring speed, skill, and ability to score goals. This mix helps carry out Chelle’s varied strategies and face different challenges in the tournament.

The team has been training hard at the Remo Stars Sports Institute in Ikenne-Remo, Ogun State, focusing on fitness, tactics, and working well together.

To get ready further, the Nigeria Football Federation has planned a second training camp in Zanzibar, Tanzania, from July 25 to July 31, 2025, to help them adjust to the weather and conditions in East Africa. They will stay in official accommodation on the island during this time.

To improve their match sharpness, Nigeria will play two friendly matches against the Zanzibar national team.

This will allow them to test different formations and tactics in a competitive environment. The squad is set to leave for Zanzibar on Thursday, July 24, 2025, by Ethiopian Airlines, with the NFF making sure all logistics are handled smoothly to support their goal of winning CHAN.
