The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Rivers State Council, has commended the Rivers State Government for appointing Dr. Honour Sirawoo, mni, as the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Communications.
The union described the appointment as “a square peg in a square hole,” citing Dr. Sirawoo’s vast experience in the media industry.
Starting his career as a Sports Editor at Rivers State Television in the 1990s, he rose to become the National President of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) and served as Press Secretary in the Deputy Governor’s Office for nearly a decade. He was also a member of the prestigious National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) and holds a Doctorate Degree in Mass Communication.

The NUJ expects Dr. Sirawoo to leverage his wealth of experience to uplift the journalism profession and state media organizations. Specifically, the union hopes he will apply his expertise to revitalize state-owned media houses and convince the government to invest in infrastructure and manpower development
The NUJ has assured Dr. Sirawoo of its unwavering support as he embarks on this new assignment. The union wishes him the very best in his new role as Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Communications.
