IPAC Chairman: Federal Allocations Drive State Creation Demands

Rivers State Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council, IPAC, Chief Solsuema Osaro, said the clamour for more state creation in Nigeria would significantly reduce if federal allocations were taken away from states.

He made this known during an interview with our correspondent, and he questioned the viability of states without federal allocations, as many states would not be able to pay salaries without these funds.

Chief Osaro, who is also the Chairman of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, stressed that the primary motivation behind the push for new states is for political interest and the desire for individuals to participate in governance.

“What is the possibility that these states will be viable after creation? Are we going to continue to depend on the allocation from the centre. Some persons are agitating for state creation for political reasons,” Chief Osaro said.

He said the government should focus on improving existing infrastructure and governance structures rather than creating new states, and he believed that the government should prioritise improving the economy and providing basic infrastructure rather than creating new states.

He argued that this would have a more significant impact on the lives of Nigerians and help to address the country’s development challenges.
