Ikuru Town General Assembly Condemns Alleged OSPAC Intrusion, Calls for Government Intervention

Rivers State

The Ikuru Town General Assembly in Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State has raised alarm over the alleged invasion of the community by known and unknown armed cultists masquerading as members of the Onelga Security Planning and Advisory Committee (OSPAC).

Reacting to it, the Secretary of the Assembly, Paul Amamino, the community expressed outrage over what it described as an “unwarranted intrusion” that has disrupted the peace and safety of residents.

According to the Assembly, the individuals in question accompanied the paramount ruler of the community, His Majesty, King (Dr.) Aaron Miller Ikuru, during his visit to Ikuru Town on Saturday, July 19, 2025, and have allegedly remained in the community even after the monarch’s return to Port Harcourt.

While the General Assembly clarified that they do not oppose the presence of professional police escorts for the King, they strongly rejected the alleged use of notorious cultists posing as OSPAC operatives to intimidate and harass residents.

“We absolutely cannot accept individuals, under the guise of security, who intimidate, terrorize, and falsely accuse innocent youths and elders of being enemies of the King.”

The Assembly further condemned what it described as sporadic and reckless gunfire by the purported OSPAC operatives, noting that such actions are a gross violation of the recently signed peace and reconciliation agreement, as well as the consent judgment reached to restore calm in the community.

They also expressed disappointment that the actions of the alleged operatives threaten to derail the ongoing reconciliation efforts led by the Sole Administrator of Andoni LGA, Surveyor Atajit Francis, who has been working tirelessly to restore harmony among all stakeholders since assuming office.

The Assembly has appealed to the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, and the State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju Adewole, to urgently intervene and address the growing security concerns in Ikuru Town.

“The people of Ikuru Town are peace-loving and have chosen not to retaliate, despite the harassment they have endured. However, we cannot continue to tolerate this atmosphere of fear.

The presence of OSPAC operatives whether real or impersonated is not needed and not welcome in our community.”

The Assembly noted that existing security measures including Naval outposts and stationed police vehicles at the King’s palace are sufficient to safeguard both the monarch and the community.

They called for immediate government action to prevent the situation from escalating into a full-blown crisis.
