UNIPORT Confers First-Class Degrees On 363 Students

The University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) is preparing to present first-class honoursto 363 graduates during its 35th convocation ceremony, which is planned for Saturday. 

This information was shared by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Owunari Georgewill, at a press conference in Port Harcourt on Monday. The announcement was part of the events for the university’s combined convocation and 50th anniversary celebrations. 

Prof. Georgewill mentioned that the convocation will take place from July 21 to 26, and will include the presentation of degrees, diplomas, prizes, and other distinctions. The event will recognize students who completed their courses in the 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 academic sessions. 

A total of 14,861 students will receive various qualifications at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels: 

– Undergraduate Degrees: 9,788 students will receive first degrees, including 363 who achieved first-class honours. 

– Postgraduate Degrees: 2,008 will be awarded Postgraduate Diplomas, 2,131 will receive Master’s degrees, and 934 will be granted Doctor of Philosophy (Ph. D. ) degrees.

In addition, the university will present honorary doctorate degrees to four notable Nigerians in recognition of their contributions to national development: 

– Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, First Lady of Nigeria 

– Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory 

– Aminu Masari, Chairman of TETFund 

– Gov. Umaru Fintiri, Governor of Adamawa State 

Prof. Georgewill referred to the convocation as a “season of harvest,” a moment for reflection on the university’s progress in academic programs, infrastructure, research, and global recognition.
