The Super Falcons of Nigeria once more booked a place in the final of the 2024 WAFCON by beating the Banyana Banyana of South Africa 2–1 after 90 minutes.
Knowing the rivalry between both the Super Eagles vs Bafana Bafana and the Super Falcons vs Banyana Banyana, it was a hard-fought encounter because of the bragging rights that are involved. This time, however, the Super Falcons were playing to further extend their record in Africa and the world as the first team to have won a record 10 continental titles, something that only a few teams like China, Brazil, and the USA in women’s football have come close to achieving in their various continents.
Nigeria took the lead in added time of the first half through Captain Rasheedat Ajibade. The goal came via a penalty after Banyana Banyana defender Magama’s hands, which were in an unnatural position, stopped a shot.
In the second half, Banyana Banyana came out fighting like a wounded lion, and they were soon rewarded for their efforts after veteran defender Osinachi Ohale fouled Banyana Banyana forward Magaia. Midfielder Linda Motlhalo stepped up to level the scores 1–1 in the 60th minute.

A horrific incident occurred in the 86th minute of the game that saw a Banyana Banyana defender, Holweni got injured and had to be stretchered off. The severity of the injury was not disclosed but judging from the reaction of the Bayana Bayana and Super Falcons players it was really severe.
The game looked to be heading to extra time, as neither team was able to find a winner, until the 94th minute of the 6+ minutes added time in the second half, when a Michelle Alozie’ cross went all the way into the net to give the Super Falcons the lead. A lead that eventually meant the Super Falcons would have the opportunity to make history in the world of football if they beat either Morocco or Ghana, who both play in the second semi-final of the tournament.
