The Police Service Commission (PSC) has reaffirmed its commitment to eliminating drug abuse within the Nigeria Police Force, promising to remove officers found to be drug addicts.
This declaration was made on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, during an official visit to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Headquarters.
The PSC delegation, led by its Chairman, retired Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Hashimu Argungu, met with NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive, Brigadier General Buba Marwa, and his management team.
During the visit, Argungu extended an invitation to the NDLEA to actively participate in the screening of individuals aspiring to join the police force.
He emphasized the importance of a strong partnership between the PSC and NDLEA in addressing drug-related issues within the police system.
Argungu acknowledged the NDLEA’s past support in screening cadets at the Police Academy in Wudil, Kano, a move he said had significantly reduced drug abuse among recruits.

He called for an expansion of this collaboration to cover the broader recruitment process in the Nigeria Police Force. The PSC Chairman praised General Marwa for his leadership and service to the nation.
“We need your support to identify and stop drug addicts from infiltrating the system.
“It is dangerous to entrust firearms to individuals struggling with substance abuse. We are committed to cleaning up the force.”
In his remarks, General Marwa congratulated Argungu on his appointment and pledged NDLEA’s full support in sanitizing the police recruitment process.
“We are committed to doing our best to curb this menace. It will require intelligence, information sharing, and proper training.”
He also stressed the need for advocacy and counseling visits to police barracks and training institutions to further combat drug addiction within the force.
