Cutt-off Marks won’t Affect Academic Standard – JAMB

JAMB

The Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB), has denied that the pegging of 2025/2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), cut-off marks will adversely affect the standard of education in the nation.

The Acting Director of JAMB Port Harcourt Zonal office, Mrs. Amina Adaji made this known in an interview with journalists.

Mrs. Adaji who described the cut-off marks as minimum admissible score university entry stated that the higher institutions still have the authority to come-up with their own cut-off marks from the minimum cut-off points established by the exam regulatory body.

“What that means is that universities can admit but cannot go below that 150,140,100 as the case may be. That aside, universities in line with what the regulatory body has assigned to them, are at liberty to propose higher scored for their courses and programmes,” she explained.

Mrs. Adaji who described JAMB as a ranking examination body added that the established cut-off marks do not guarantee automatic admission into the various institutions of higher learning in the country.

“If 100 people are vying for chemistry for instance and they need 50 people, they will simply trace it from the highest to where that 50 ends. If the 50 ends at 220 that means people who scored 219 below cannot get the admission. If you score 200 and do not get admission where is the chance of one who scored 150, 140 or 100,” she stated.

Joint Admission Matriculation Board announced the minimum cut-off marks of university for 150, plolytechnics and colleges of education at 100, and school of nursing is pegged has 140 as minimum score in the 2025/2026 academic season.
