CHAN: Team B Eagles to Be Named Today by Chelle

Super Eagles B head coach, Eric Chelle, is expected to unveil his final list of players for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) today, following a two-week training camp held in Ikenne, Ogun State.

The rescheduled tournament, which will now run from August 2 to 30, will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.

According to sources close to the team, the squad will engage in a final preparatory match today, after which the current roster of 28 players will be reduced to the final squad for the tournament.

Chelle initially invited 35 home-based players to the training camp. However, five of them were later ruled out after securing moves abroad, which made them ineligible to participate. One additional player was dropped due to injury.

“The pressure is real, but the coaching crew is determined to pick only the best from the initial list,” assistant coach Nduka stated.

Also speaking about the competitive atmosphere in camp, Rivers United striker and former Flying Eagles forward Aniekeme Okon acknowledged the challenge.
“It puts pressure on us. With 35 players called up, everyone is giving their best in the hope of making the final squad. So we keep pushing,” he said.

Drawn in Group D, Nigeria will face reigning champions Senegal, as well as Sudan and Congo, in the 19-team tournament.

The Super Eagles B will open their campaign against Senegal and Sudan at the Amman Stadium in Zanzibar. Their final group stage match will be against Congo at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

Nigeria is still chasing its first CHAN title. The team previously finished third in 2014 and reached the final in 2018, where they were defeated by hosts Morocco.
