Nigerian superstar Burna Boy has etched his name in the record books, surpassing his peers to become the Nigerian artist with the highest number of albums on the prestigious US Billboard 200 chart. This milestone cements his position as one of Afrobeats’ most successful global acts.
Before this achievement, Burna Boy was tied with fellow Nigerian music icon Wizkid, with each artist having four albums on the Billboard 200. However, the release of his latest project, ‘No Sign Of Weakness,’ has propelled him ahead, marking his fifth entry on the chart. The album made its debut at the very bottom of the Billboard 200 this week, securing the 200th position—a modest entry but enough to break the tie and set a new record.
Despite its historic significance, ‘No Sign Of Weakness’ had one of the lowest opening numbers for a Nigerian album on the Billboard 200. The project sold a mere 8,800 units in the US, making it the weakest debut ever recorded by a Nigerian artist on the chart. Industry analysts have pointed to Billboard’s recent rule change as a major factor in the album’s underwhelming performance.

Previously, the Billboard 200 incorporated streaming data from international markets, allowing Afrobeats stars to capitalize on their massive followings in Nigeria, Ghana, the UK, and other regions to boost their chart positions. However, under the new regulations, only US-based sales and streams are counted, significantly impacting artists like Burna Boy who rely heavily on global fan engagement.
