Police operatives attached to the Azikiwe Police Division and the Octopus Tactical Unit have foiled a suspected cult clash between rival groups near one of the universities in Rivers State.
The incident occurred on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at Opobo Lane/Azikiwe Street, Mile 2 Diobu, Port Harcourt, following a supremacy battle between suspected members of the Klu Klux Klans (KKK) and Vikings confraternity.
According to eyewitnesses, pandemonium broke out when suspected cultists, reportedly heading toward the university’s main campus to launch an attack, encountered rival members along the busy Opobo Lane/Azikiwe axis. A shootout ensued, causing traders and pedestrians to flee the scene, with many business owners hurriedly closing their shops.
Sources revealed that the swift response of the Azikiwe Police Division and the Octopus Strike Force brought the situation under control. Three suspected cultists, believed to be students, were apprehended during the operation. One of the suspects is reportedly a final-year student of a university in the state.
