‘I’m My Idol’s Favorite Artist’ – Ayra Starr Reveals Rihanna’s Secret

AYRA STARR

Nigerian singer Ayra Starr has opened up about her deep admiration for global superstar Rihanna, describing her as an exceptional role model and expressing gratitude for choosing her as a musical inspiration. During a recent interview with ETalk TV, Starr reflected on her unforgettable meeting with the billionaire pop icon, emphasising how meaningful the experience was for her.

Starr fondly recounted the moment she first met Rihanna, sharing that the Barbadian singer surprised her by revealing she was a fan of her music.

For Starr, the most thrilling part of their interaction was realising that she had become the favourite artist of her own idol—a surreal and fulfilling moment in her career.

“She [Rihanna] is such an amazing person. To be honest, it [meeting her] still feels like a dream. I love her so much,” Starr confessed. She went on to challenge the common saying that warns against meeting one’s idols, stating, “People always say, ‘never meet your idols’, but I’m so glad I met mine because she’s just an amazing person. And the fact that she loves my music; I’m my favourite artist’s favourite artist.”

The “Rush” hitmaker further praised Rihanna’s multifaceted excellence, calling her “an amazing artist, an amazing woman, an amazing person in general; somebody to look up to.” Starr affirmed that she had made the right choice in idolizing Rihanna, acknowledging her as a stellar role model. However, she admitted that being in Rihanna’s presence often left her starstruck, leading to nervous attempts at humour.

“I know I chose a great role model, and being able to be around her, I usually don’t know what to do with myself,” Starr revealed. “When I get nervous around her, I try to make unnecessary jokes.”
