Dangote Refinery has halted its discounted fuel program due to a scheme where some marketers and partners were diverting subsidized products for profit.
Investigations revealed that these marketers, who received discounted products to ensure affordability and supply, were rerouting trucks to unregistered third-party marketers. This allowed them to profit from the price difference without incurring legitimate costs.
The diverted products were sold at market rates, undermining the program’s goals and distorting the market. Consequently, the refinery suspended the discount scheme on July 13, 2025, as stated in a letter signed by Fatima Dangote.

The refinery found that some marketers were reselling products directly from its tarmac at lower prices than the official gantry price, which was detrimental to its operations.
The company launched the discounted pricing scheme to provide affordable petroleum products nationwide. Despite multiple warnings, the abuse became widespread.
The letter explained the suspension and the restructuring of the scheme, while also offering concessions for outstanding product releases and payments completed before the suspension date.
