Loss of Faith in Existing Parties Drives Registration of New Political Parties – Nwuke

A former Federal lawmaker, Chief Ogbonna Nwuke, says the request by over one hundred associations to be registered as Political Parties has dispelled fears that the country might be heading towards a one-party system, following a recent spate of defections by politicians to a particular political party.

Chief Nwuke, who spoke with our correspondent in Port Harcourt, also said that the crave for registration of new political parties is an indication that the people have lost faith in the existing political parties, hence the need for them to seek for new political platforms that can protect their interest.

While describing various requests for the creation of new states as ridiculous, Chief Nwuke explained that most states in the country are not viable and cannot survive without federal allocation. He asserted that creating new states would be an overkill for the nation’s economy.

The former federal lawmaker, who advised that only viable states should be created if need be, said for the sake of equity and fairness, only the Southeast region of the country deserves to have a new state.

On the new coalition party, Chief Nwuke cautioned against dismissing it as a toothless and weak party, noting that only the electorate would decide the party of their choice in 2027.
