PSG manager facing potential coaching ban after hitting Chelsea star

Chelsea emerged as surprisingly comfortable victors in the Club World Cup final, defeating Paris Saint-Germain 3-0. The PSG team, which has been accustomed to winning effortlessly in recent times, struggled to accept the loss.

With under 10 minutes remaining, Joao Neves received a red card for pulling Marc Cucurella’s hair, leading to heightened tensions at the final whistle. As emotions flared among the players, both coaching staffs became involved as well.

During a dispute involving Gianluigi Donnarumma, Achraf Hakimi, Andrey Santos, and Joao Pedro, Luis Enrique was observed pushing Pedro in the neck area, causing the Brazilian to fall, which could result in serious repercussions for the former Spain, Barcelona, and Celta Vigo manager.

After the situation calmed, Luis Enrique addressed the media and shared his perspective on the events with Cadena Cope.

“I’m foolish. He stands there, he pushes me, I touch him, and he falls.”

“After the match, there was a scenario that I believe could have been entirely avoided by everyone involved. My aim and intention, as always, was to separate the players to prevent any further issues,” he stated during a press conference.

Luis Enrique emphasized, with a hint of irony, that he was attempting to de-escalate the situation.

“There was significant tension, a lot of pressure. Following that, there were several shoving incidents involving many individuals, which I believe we should all strive to avoid and which should not occur again. However, I reiterate, my intention, as always, was to prevent any situation from escalating.”

That being said, FIFA may take a much harsher stance. Although the next scheduled Club World Cup is not for another four years, Cadena SER has indicated that he could still face repercussions beyond merely being suspended from matches in the tournament.

He may encounter a time-based suspension, which could entail a complete ban from coaching, rather than just from games. Atletico Madrid’s Jose Maria Gimenez received a four-game suspension, community service, and a €21.5k fine after entering the crowd following a match for Uruguay to defend his teammate.
