Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Davido has once again addressed critics who attribute his success solely to his wealthy background, this time with his signature humor. The singer, born David Adedeji Adeleke, sparked reactions online after responding to social media users trolling him for frequently showcasing his access to private jets owned by his billionaire father, Dr. Adedeji Adeleke.
The multi-award-winning artist took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to shut down critics in his characteristic witty style. “This free jet wey I dey fly all around the world dey really pain una. I’m sorry it’s my birth right,” he wrote, before adding the punchline: “In my next life, I go come back as vulcaniser. Ma binu.”

The comment, mixing humor with defiance, immediately went viral, with fans and critics alike weighing in on the ongoing debate about privilege versus talent in the entertainment industry. By joking about returning as a vulcaniser, Davido cleverly acknowledged his critics while simultaneously dismissing their arguments.
Despite being the son of one of Nigeria’s richest businessmen, the “Unavailable” hitmaker has consistently emphasized his own hard work in building his music career. He has previously spoken about facing industry skepticism early on, with some dismissing him as just a “rich kid playing musician.”
Yet, Davido’s track record speaks for itself—chart-topping hits, sold-out global tours, and collaborations with international stars like Chris Brown and Nicki Minaj. His record label, DMW (Davido Music Worldwide), has also launched the careers of other successful artists, further cementing his influence in Afrobeats.
