The Niger Delta region came alive with tributes and celebrations as prominent leader Chief (Dr.) Wellington Okirika, CON, the Bolowei of Gbaramatu Kingdom, marked his birthday.

Admirers, community leaders, and political figures gathered to honour a man whose decades of advocacy, leadership, and unwavering commitment to justice have left an indelible mark on the region.

Chief Okirika’s life story, chronicled in his widely acclaimed autobiography, stands as a testament to his resilience, vision, and dedication to public service.

His journey reflects the broader struggles of the Niger Delta people, from marginalization to the fight for resource control and environmental justice, ensuring their concerns reached national and international platforms.

She urged young Nigerians to embrace his legacy, emphasising the need for sustained advocacy in the face of systemic challenges, the value of unity and communal harmony in driving development.

A Pillar of Gbaramatu Kingdom and the Niger Delta. As the Bolowei (a high-ranking traditional title) of Gbaramatu Kingdom, Chief Okirika has played a pivotal role in cultural preservation and conflict resolution.
