Power Outage Hits Multiple Areas in Rivers After Explosion at Rumuosi Transmission Station

A power outage has affected several communities in Rivers State following an explosion at the Rumuosi Transmission Station on Monday, June 30, 2025, according to the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Plc (PHED).

The blast, which destroyed a breaker at the station, disrupted the UPTH 33kV feeder, leaving areas including Choba axis, Rumuekini, Aluu, Alakahia, Rumuagholu, Obirikwere axis, Rumuosi, and surrounding environs without electricity. PHED management issued a statement apologizing for the inconvenience and appealing for patience as their technical team works to rectify the fault and restore power.

“All inconveniences are regretted,” the statement read, signed by management. No further details on the cause of the explosion or potential injuries were provided.

PHED assured customers that efforts are underway to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. Updates on the restoration process will be made available by The Port City News.

PHED has not specified a timeline for restoration but promised updates as work progresses. Local authorities and the Transmission Company of Nigeria have been contacted for further comment, with no response as of press time. Residents, some relying on generators, expressed frustration on social media, with one user, @de_sm, noting a lack of power since morning in the Rumuokurushi Pipeline area.
