Rivers United plot move for Ikorodu City defender Ojetoye ahead of Enyimba

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) teams, Enyimba and Rivers United, are actively seeking to acquire Waliu Ojetoye from Ikorodu City this summer.

Both clubs are in urgent need of quality players as they prepare for the 2025–26 NPFL season. Enyimba and Rivers United will need to present a substantial offer for the defender, given that he remains under contract with Ikorodu City.

Should Ojetoye join Rivers United, he may have the opportunity to compete in the CAF Champions League. He had an impressive performance that contributed to the Oga Boys’ fourth-place finish in the NPFL last season.

The 21-year-old defender was a regular feature in coach Nurudeen Aweroro’s lineup during the NPFL. His contributions in the league also secured him a spot in the Super Eagles team for the Unity Cup held in London.

Ojetoye had a remarkable season in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), distinguishing himself as one of the top left-backs.

He concluded the season with nine assists, the highest among defenders in the league, and played a significant role in aiding Ikorodu City to a 4th place finish, despite a challenging start to the season.

His exceptional performances led to a call-up to Nigeria’s CHAN Eagles and subsequently to the Super Eagles squad for the 2025 Unity Cup.

Nevertheless, he did not have the opportunity to participate in the tournament. Ojetoye remained on the bench during the opening match against Ghana and was not included in the squad for the final against Jamaica.
