The Federal Government has delivered on its 30-year-old commitment to housing the 1994 Super Eagles squad, winners of the Africa Cup of Nations in Tunisia. The announcement was made via a statement on the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development’s website on Wednesday.
Former striker Efan Ekoku was among the beneficiaries, receiving an allocation letter for a house in Abuja. His niece, Lisa Jenifer Nwagbogun, accepted the letter on his behalf during a brief ceremony. Pemi Temitope, Director and Head of Public Building and Housing Development, presented the letter, emphasizing the government’s dedication to honoring the team’s patriotic service from three decades ago.

Nwagbogun expressed gratitude, stating, “I am deeply thankful to the Federal Government and the Ministry of Housing for fulfilling this long-standing pledge to my uncle. This gesture honors Mr. Efan Ekoku’s service and restores faith in public promises.”
In 2022, former President Muhammadu Buhari approved the implementation of the 1994 housing pledge, 28 years after it was initially made. Housing units are now being allocated to team members across various states, with some, like Ekoku, receiving theirs in Abuja.
