Rivers United Kick Off 2025/26 Season Preparations Under Finidi George

Port Harcourt-based football club, Rivers United, the 2022 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions, began their 2025/26 season preparations on Monday at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium. Coach Finidi George, addressing the squad, urged the players to gear up for the challenges ahead in both the NPFL and CAF Champions League campaigns.

“Welcome back from the offseason break. It’s time to prepare for the task ahead,” Finidi said, as quoted in the club’s statement. The first training session saw 25 players in attendance, with the club expected to announce new signings soon.

Rivers United’s media update highlighted the significance of the preparations: “The club has officially begun training, marking a key step toward building on their strong performance in the 2024/25 season.”

In his debut season with the Pride of Rivers, Rivers United, Finidi guided the Pride of Rivers to a second-place finish in the NPFL, amassing 64 points from 38 matches, seven points behind champions Remo Stars. This secured their spot in the CAF Champions League preliminary round. Finidi, who previously led Enyimba to their ninth NPFL title in 2023, joined Rivers United after a brief tenure as head coach of the Super Eagles.

The 2025/26 NPFL season is set to start on August 22, with the CAF Champions League preliminary round draw also anticipated soon.
