NDDC Reiterates Commitment to Gender Equality, Women’s Empowerment

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) is making important strides towards fostering inclusivity and development for women throughout the region, as the Commission renewed its commitment to gender equality and the empowerment of women in the Niger Delta area.

During the opening ceremony of the three-day workshop, Sir Victor Antai, the NDDC Executive Director of Projects, represented by the Akwa Ibom State Director, Engr. Evong Evong, praised the strength and diligence of women in the area. He stressed NDDC’s commitment to promoting gender inclusivity.

He stated, “Gender equality is a key focus in our sustainable development agenda.” “Since the establishment of the NDDC, a dedicated department has worked to ensure that women’s affairs are at the heart of our mission.”

He noted the Commission’s alignment with the Renewed Hope Initiative led by the First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s national agenda, reinforcing their mutual vision for empowering women.

In his keynote address, business strategist and brand expert Mr. Aniekeme Finbar highlighted the crucial role that information plays in empowering women and fostering their leadership. “A well-informed woman is a powerful woman,” Finbar asserted.

He encouraged participants to pursue knowledge and stay actively involved in local matters, emphasizing that education and awareness serve as the foundation for advocacy, leadership, and meaningful societal contributions.

Discussing women’s rights and gender equality, consultant Mrs. Susan Umoh praised the NDDC for supporting women’s causes, stating that “women form the backbone of society.” She stated, “Always remember that as women, we possess the power and capability to achieve our goals. Women should never let themselves be disregarded or undervalued.”

Umoh highlighted the necessity of empowering women to tap into their strengths. She urged women to be ambitious, supportive of one another, and to advocate for regional advancement, encouraging those involved in crafts to mentor others and champion each other’s success.
