Rivers Government Commended for Empowering Women

Rivers State

Rivers State Government has been lauded for giving women more opportunities to serve in different capacities. The permanent secretary, the State Ministry of Woman Affairs, Uche Oweri who made the commendation, in Port Harcourt frowned at the wrong perception that women should not be trusted with public offices.

Madam Oweri stated that the Rivers State Ministry of Women Affairs are doing enough to promote the wellbeing of women by declaring free education, enlightening them on their rights and providing shelters for those in need.

She also hailed Non Governmental Organisations for collaborating with the state government to carry out development programmes to the rural areas which includes the abolition of Female Genital Mutilation.

The Permanent Secretary criticized all forms of segregations against women describing them as unconstitutional.
