The Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Professor Ngozi Odu, has praised the group Rivers Women Unite for SIM for their unwavering commitment to prayer and spiritual support for the peace and progress of the state.
Speaking at the group’s regular prayer and thanksgiving session held Thursday at the Ecumenical Centre in Port Harcourt, Prof. Odu commended the women for their resilience, particularly during what she described as a challenging period in the state’s political landscape.
“The Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, is deeply proud of you and sincerely grateful for your continuous prayers and support. Your faith and spiritual strength have been a vital source of encouragement for both the governor and myself.”

The weekly gathering, which coincided with Nigeria’s Democracy Day, was not held in commemoration of the national holiday, but was part of the group’s ongoing monthly prayer and fasting program. The initiative, members say, predates the recent political tensions and the declaration of a state of emergency in the state.

Delivering a sermon during the session, Dr. Preye Oarhe urged citizens to remain steadfast in faith, assuring them that Rivers State will overcome its current difficulties. Citing the biblical story of Joseph, she emphasized that God’s purpose ultimately triumphs over adversity.
Participants at the event expressed hope that through persistent prayer, democratic governance would be restored, and Rivers State would experience greater peace and development. “Even though we are facing trying times, our hope lies in God, and through our prayers, we believe there will be restoration and progress,” one participant said.
The prayer group has pledged to continue its spiritual support for the state’s leadership, reaffirming their commitment to peace, unity, and democratic ideals.
