The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has cautioned suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara that sincere reconciliation efforts are necessary to prevent his impeachment. APC Caretaker Committee Chairman Tony Okocha emphasized that Fubara has yet to take meaningful steps to reconcile with the state’s duly elected lawmakers.
The political deadlock in Rivers State began due to a rift between FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and Governor Siminalayi Fubara. On March 18, President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency, suspending Governor Fubara, members of the State House of Assembly, and appointing retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas as Sole Administrator for six months.

Tony Okocha warned that without genuine reconciliation, Fubara’s impeachment would be inevitable, citing a Supreme Court judgment. He stated that there are currently no reconciliation efforts underway and that Fubara has not made any moves to reconcile with the lawmakers. Recent meetings involving President Tinubu, Wike, and Fubara suggest possible reconciliation efforts.
However, the APC remains skeptical about Fubara’s commitment to reconciliation. Okocha’s warning comes amid rumors that President Tinubu may reinstate Fubara on June 12. The APC’s warning highlights the ongoing political tensions in Rivers State and the potential consequences for Governor Fubara if he fails to reconcile with the lawmakers. The situation remains fluid, with the outcome dependent on the actions of key stakeholders, including the President, Governor Fubara, and the APC.
