Chelsea is pleased to announce the acquisition of Mamadou Sarr from Ligue 1 club RC Strasbourg, with the defender signing a contract that extends until 2033. Mamadou was a consistent presence for Strasbourg during the 2024/25 season, playing a pivotal role in the French team’s successful qualification for European competition next year.
The 19-year-old made 28 appearances in total across all competitions, contributing to the club’s advancement to the UEFA Conference League play-off for the upcoming season. Mamadou initially demonstrated his significant potential while in the academy of RC Lens before transferring to Lyon.

After advancing through the youth system, he made his senior debut in the second-to-last match of the 2022/23 season. The impactful defender received two additional senior appearances in the subsequent season before undertaking a five-month loan at Belgian side RWD Molenbeek.
Mamadou, who represents France at the Under-20 level, joined Strasbourg last August and quickly became a regular starter in the defensive lineup. He made 27 starts in Ligue 1, contributing to Strasbourg’s seventh-place finish. His abilities have been acknowledged by the national team, as he has earned caps at various youth levels, with his most recent appearances for France’s Under-20 team.
