Simi to Fans: Stop Calling My Daughter ‘Duduke’

Nigerian singer Simisola Kosoko, popularly known as Simi, has asked the public to refrain from referring to her daughter, Adejare, as “Duduke.”

The nickname originated after Simi released her 2020 hit song ‘Duduke,’ which she dedicated to her unborn child at the time. When she and her husband, singer Adekunle Gold, welcomed their daughter Adejare in June 2020, some fans began affectionately calling the little girl “Duduke” in reference to the track.

However, in a recent chat with VJ Adams, Simi clarified that she dislikes the nickname because it holds no meaning. She explained that “Duduke” was simply an onomatopoeia in the song, representing the sound of her heartbeat in anticipation of her baby.

“People call my daughter Duduke, which I don’t like. That’s not her name. It doesn’t even mean anything. Had it meant something good, I would have allowed it. But it’s just a beat, duduke, duduke. That was what I meant. My heart beats like a drum,” she said.

Though she understands the nickname comes from a place of endearment, Simi playfully urged fans to stop using it, saying, “Stop calling my child Duduke [laughs]. But you know what? I get it, it’s coming from a good place, so I try not to react.”
