The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has initiated payment of outstanding allowances to current and former corps members. The payment covers the newly approved monthly stipend of N77,000, addressing the backlog for eligible members.
This payment marks a significant development for corps members who had been receiving the previous N33,000 stipend despite the announced increase in September 2024. The back payment includes the period between July 2024 and March 2025, when the N77,000 allowance took effect.
This development relieves corps members waiting for the updated stipend, which was announced in September 2024 but recently implemented. Some corps members have received N44,000, which appears to represent one month of arrears, but many are believed to be owed approximately three months of arrears.

Adebola Yusuf, a corps member serving in Osun State, expressed relief and appreciation, stating that the payment is a “game-changer” and acknowledging the value of their efforts. Isma’il Isah, a corps member, welcomed the payment, feeling it demonstrated the government’s concern for their welfare.
The NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, assured corps members that the government is dedicated to settling the outstanding payments and has verified their bank information. The Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, explained that budgetary and administrative factors caused the delay, but the government is actively working to address the issues.
