NPFL Boss Hails Inclusion Of NPFL Players In Unity Cup

Honourable Gbenga Elegbeleye, of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) and Second Vice President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has hailed the significant contributions of NPFL players to the Super Eagles’ success at the Unity Cup in London, United Kingdom, as a transformative milestone for Nigerian football.

He expressed profound satisfaction and appreciation with the inclusion of home-based players in the national team, emphasizing that their standout performances underscore the growing quality and depth of talent within the domestic league. Elegbeleye commended Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle for his strategic decision to integrate NPFL players into the squad, noting that this move aligns with the NPFL’s core mission to nurture and promote local talent.

“As administrators of the domestic league, our primary goal is to develop homegrown players and provide a platform for them to shine,” Elegbeleye stated. “Coach Chelle’s approach to scouting and selecting NPFL players for the Unity Cup reflects confidence in the league’s ability to produce athletes capable of competing on the international stage.”

The NPFL players selected for the tournament demonstrated exceptional skill and professionalism, earning praise as outstanding representatives of the league. Their contributions were instrumental in securing the Super Eagles’ victory, highlighting the potential of Nigeria’s domestic football to serve as a reliable pipeline for national team talent.

“These players have proven themselves as true ambassadors of the NPFL,” Elegbeleye remarked. “Their performances in London have shown the world that the Nigerian league is a hub of quality, discipline, and untapped potential.” This achievement is expected to boost the NPFL’s reputation, attract greater investment, and encourage more local players to view the domestic league as a viable pathway to international recognition.

Elegbeleye’s comments signal a renewed commitment to strengthening the NPFL’s infrastructure, improving player development programs, and fostering closer collaboration with the NFF to ensure a steady supply of talent to the Super Eagles.
