Corps Members Charged to Be Wealth Creators, Not Job Seekers

The National Youth Service Corps NYSC, Rivers State, held a low-key passing-out ceremony for the 2024 Batch B Stream I Corps Members who completed their service year.

The passing out parade was held on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at the Isaac Boro Park, Port Harcourt, and was monitored by Mr. Mayomi Sanmi, a Deputy Director from the NYSC South South Area Office I, Asaba.

While a total of 2302 corps members completed the one-year service, two others lost their lives in active service. Also, 17 corps members had an extension of service, comprising 7 males and 10 females. Two others received a pardon, while 23 absconded, comprising 13 males and 10 females.

At the ceremony, the State NYSC Coordinator, Mr. Moses Oleghe, charged the outgoing corps to carry the values of the NYSC Scheme wherever they go, as well as create wealth with their hands. In his address, Oleghe reminded them that “you have been loaded with core values of the NYSC scheme and therefore, you must be positive impact makers in any field of endeavor they find themselves going forward.”

The NYSC coordinator further enjoined them not to “wait and waste their time waiting for white-collar jobs but instead start a business to create wealth with their own hands. “Think outside the box by being creative, hard working, disciplined, focused, determined, and dedicated towards building a future of their dreams for themselves.”
