Taxi Driver Killed in Suspected Cult Clash in Port Harcourt

A tragic incident occurred late Sunday night, June 1, 2025, as suspected cultists shot and killed a taxi driver along the Echue Street/Illabouchi axis of Mile 2 Diobu, Port Harcourt.

The victim, whose identity had yet to be confirmed at press time, was reportedly caught in a crossfire during a violent clash between suspected members of the BS (Blood Star) and D12 (December 12) factions of the Deygbam cult group around 11:00 p.m.

Sources told our correspondent that the body of the slain driver was later retrieved by officers from the Azikiwe Police Division in Mile 2 Diobu and taken to the station.

It remains unclear whether the deceased had any affiliation with the rival cult groups involved in the supremacy battle.

The gunfire reportedly caused panic in the area, forcing traders and business owners to flee, while some residents and shopkeepers were robbed by the rampaging cultists.

Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, stated that an investigation is currently underway.
