The General Officer Commanding GOC 6 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Emmanuel Eric-Emekah says the ability for soldiers to navigate and thrive in riverine environments of operations is crucial.
Major General Eric-Emekah made the assertion at the opening of 6 Division Inter-Brigade Swimming Competition held at the Port Harcourt Barracks Rivers State.
The GOC who was represented by the Chief of Staff 6 Division Headquarters, Brigadier General Emmanuel Adamu noted that swimming was a fundamental requirement for any soldier who seeks to excel in riverine operations.
He said” The skill you will showcase are not merely recreational, they are the foundations of your survival and the success of your mission. Proficiency in swimming is not just a trait but a fundamental requirement for any soldier who seeks to excel in riverine operations.

“Whether it is the swift crossing of raging Rivers, the rescue of fellow comrades in distress or the execution of amphibious assaults, Your mastery of water skills will directly contribute to the operational efficiency and combat readiness of our operations “.
Earlier in an the welcome address, the Commander 6 Division Garrison, Brigadier General Sani Ahmed encouraged the participants to embody good sportsmanship, teamwork and fair play.
“The competition goes beyond winning. It is about fostering esprit de corps and selecting the finest athletes to represent our Division in the upcoming inter-Division swimming competition.
Participants of the swimming competition were drawn from four formations which are 2 Brigade, 16 Brigade, 63 Brigade and 6 Division Garrison.
