Youths of Rivers State have been advised to rise above their personal interest, and utilize their potentials to bring about the positive change that is needed in the state. Former Nigerian Ambassador to the Netherlands, Mr. Oji Ngofa, who gave charge during the inauguration of Coalition of Rivers State Youth Bodies in Port Harcourt, said the youths have a major role to play in getting Rivers State out of its present doldrums.
“If you are ready to use your youthful energy to pursue positive change, to make impact as youth you must be sacrificial, you must place public interest over personal interest and commitment to what you are doing” he noted. Mr. Ngofa further enjoined the youths to set an agenda for good leadership and to demand from the government their basic rights.

Also speaking, the chairman of the Rivers State Council of Nigerian Labour Congress, Mr. Alex Agwanwor, urged the youths to support the ongoing peace process in the state.The Chairman of Coalition of Rivers State Youth Bodies, Mr. Saviour Imeabe, said the coalition will prioritise peace, unity and progress among the youths of Rivers State, and clarified that the Coalition is not affiliated to any political party.
He said, “under my watch we will not rent out our platform for any political interest. We are here to be a voice for the voiceless and enforce for justice and accountability, we will speak out against human right violation and stand firmly on the side of truth and equity”. While assuring that the youth body will not engage in any activity that would hinder development, Mr. Imeabe called for the inclusion of youth in governance.
