Tems Listed Among Africa’s 100 Most Notable Peace Icons for 2025

Nigerian Grammy-winning singer Temilade Openiyi, widely known as Tems, and the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, have been recognized in the 2025 ‘100 Most Notable Peace Icons Africa’ list. According to Amb. Kingsley Amafibe, Project Director for Africa’s 100 Most Notable Peace Icons, the honorees were chosen for their dedication to initiatives that foster peace and development. He noted that the individuals on the list come from diverse backgrounds and have leveraged their influence, talents, and resources to advance peace across the continent.

Selection criteria included their contributions to humanitarian causes, community impact, and youth empowerment. “This initiative stands as a testament to our commitment to acknowledging and applauding remarkable individuals and the key roles they play in nurturing peace, harmony, and positive change on the African continent,” Amafibe stated.

“These individuals have showcased unwavering resilience and commitment to nurturing new leaders, fueling economic growth, and uplifting positive changes across various sectors.”

He emphasized that the list highlights leaders, economists, sports personalities, entertainers, and traditional rulers who have broken barriers and left lasting legacies.

The award ceremony will take place in July 2025 at the 100 Most Notable Africans Leadership and Business Summit’ in Kigali, Rwanda. The event, themed ‘Leadership Frameworks for Governance, Business Growth, Investment Opportunities, and Sustainable Development in Africa,’ will gather policymakers, business leaders, and experts to discuss Africa’s economic future.

Amafibe stressed the importance of collaboration in tackling Africa’s economic challenges, stating that the summit will facilitate dialogue on trade, governance, and cross-border partnerships in sectors like agriculture, education, and health.

Africa, with its diverse people, landscapes, and dynamic population, presents a compelling invitation, and this event is a dynamic platform for us to come together and explore significant trends, challenges, and opportunities for collaborations,” he added.

The summit will feature panel discussions, networking sessions, and strategies to enhance political stability and investor confidence while promoting regional cooperation.
