Residents of Rumuodomaya Lament as Floods Cripple Street Road After Light Rainfall

Residents of Akwaka community in Rumuodomaya are raising alarm over persistent flooding on their major road, which has made movement nearly impossible even after minimal rainfall.

The situation has become so severe that motorists are now avoiding the route entirely, fearing damage to their vehicles or getting stuck in the waterlogged path.

Residents report that the road, a critical link for commuters and businesses in the area, becomes completely flooded after even brief showers, disrupting daily activities.

Pedestrians are forced to wade through knee-deep water, while drivers have resorted to taking longer alternative routes to avoid the submerged stretch.

This has been a recurring problem for years, but it keeps getting worse,” said a frustrated resident. Every time it rains, no matter how little, the road turns into a river. We can’t move freely, and businesses suffer because customers can’t access the area.”

Local traders and transporters are among the hardest hit, with many complaining of lost income due to the road’s poor condition. Some say the floods are cause by the blocked gutters, loaded with sand.

Some commercial drivers have completely withdrawn their vehicles from the route, worsening transportation challenges in the community.
