Rivers United Will Get Experienced Players- Finidi George

Finidi George

Rivers United’s technical manager Finidi George, has unveiled an ambitious plan to fortify and strengthen his squad with seasoned players as the team prepares for the upcoming CAF Champions League. The former Super Eagles winger, drawing from past experiences, emphasized the importance of recruiting battle-tested talent to enhance the team’s competitiveness on the continental stage.

In a recent interview with Rivers United’s media team, Finidi revealed that the club intends to sign six experienced players to bolster the squad. “Four, five, or six additions isn’t bad for a group like this,” he stated. “We won’t just bring in players; we will recruit trusted players with continental experience as well.” His strategy is rooted in avoiding the pitfalls he witnessed during his tenure with Enyimba, where a lack of experience proved costly in their CAF Champions League clash against Wydad Casablanca in Morocco.

Finidi noted that some Enyimba players struggled to cope with the intense atmosphere, particularly the hostile crowd noise, which impacted their performance. “Some players couldn’t cope with the noise in the atmosphere,” he recalled. “It’s not just about bringing in players who will shrink when they get to the continent.”

Finidi’s focus on recruiting players with proven continental pedigree underscores his determination to ensure Rivers United is well-equipped for the rigors of the CAF Champions League. “We need a couple of experienced players in that field so we don’t get to the continent and struggle,” he explained. “We know the CAF Champions League will be difficult.

We have to prepare properly and get the right legs.” His comments reflect a clear understanding of the competition’s demands, where tactical discipline, mental resilience, and experience are critical to success against Africa’s top clubs.

The recruitment drive comes as Rivers United aims to make a strong impression in the prestigious tournament, which pits the continent’s elite clubs against each other. Finidi, a former Nigerian international with a wealth of experience both as a player and coach, is leveraging his insights to build a squad capable of navigating the challenges of high-stakes continental football.

His time at Enyimba, where he led the team in domestic and international competitions, has evidently shaped his approach to squad-building for Rivers United. As the team prepares for the CAF Champions League, Finidi’s proactive strategy signals Rivers United’s intent to compete at the highest level.

The addition of experienced players is expected to complement the existing squad, which has already shown promise in the Nigerian Professional Football League. By prioritizing quality and resilience, Finidi aims to position Rivers United as a formidable contender in the competition.

Fans of the Port Harcourt-based club are eagerly awaiting further announcements regarding the new signings, with hopes that the bolstered squad will deliver memorable performances on the continental stage. As preparations intensify, Finidi’s leadership and strategic foresight will be key to Rivers United’s ambitions of achieving success in the CAF Champions League.
